Dr. Sonza L. Curtis, MPAS, PA-C, ND, NWC, received her Master of Science with honors in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1996 with honors. Her diverse medical experience includes extensive training in otolaryngology surgery, plastic surgery, pain management, family practice, clinical medical research, community health and integrative medicine. She trained for 6 years at Alpharetta integrative Medicine with the late Dr. Christine Gustafason, who was one of the pioneers of functional medicine in the greater Atlanta area.

Dr. Curtis joined Atlanta Functional Medicine at its inception along with Dr. Elizabeth Board October 1, 2012. She and Dr. Board have vowed to carry out Dr. Gustafason’s dream of practicing functional medicine. She is also undergoing her certification in Functional Medicine with an expected date of completion in 2014.

In 2004, Dr. Curtis traveled to South Africa as a medical missionary. She later went on to complete her Doctorate of Naturopathy for Health Care Professionals with honors in 2010. Her decision to choose the field of Naturopathy allowed her to break away from conventional medicine, which she felt had been somewhat fragmented and “missing something”. She believes finding the underlying cause of an ailment should be the first step in treatment rather than immediately masking the problem with pharmaceuticals. She currently utilizes her expertise in holistic medicine for weight loss and proper nutrition by using HCG and other natural hormonal therapies.

Dr. Curtis earned certifications for both Physician Assistants NCCPA and Natural Wellness from the National Commission of Certifications. She is also member of the American Association of Naturopathic Practitioners and Georgia Association of Physician Assistants.

Dr. Curtis has served on the advisory board at Safe House in downtown Atlanta and the Advisory board for LiveLiving magazine.

As an active member of her local community, she participates in community health outreaches, including the Roswell Day of Hope and Back to School. She is one of the annual Speakers for the Christian singers’ workshop.

Dr. Curtis goals are to practice quality medicine combining her allopathic training (western) with naturopathic training achieving total wellness. She truly believes that each one of us has the innate wisdom and abilities to heal from within, on a physical, emotional and spritural level to achieve our best health. She looks forward to being able to offer these services to our community.

Dr. Curtis enjoys working with patient of all ages and is committed to providing excellent healthcare. She is married with four children and had a grandson.
